POLL: Should we advertise unpaid internships?

One of the things we do at Development Intern is spread information on internships and entry level jobs in the global development sector. We’re all starting out too so try to spread any good leads and tips to other bottom-rungers. We’re just nice like that. At the moment, we don’t have a feed on the site itself to give these updates but check out our Facebook and Twitter feeds, particularly this List.

Sometimes, though, we aren’t sure if we should spread some information. This blog grew out of a personal blog started during my first proper job – which was unpaid – and I wrote about my opposition to unpaid internships/long term voluntary positions in the development sector (and beyond) fairly frequently.

Personally, I think there’s no room for them in the industry (or any other industry), particularly if we seek to professionalize and improve standards. Because of this, we don’t knowingly advertise such positions. But perhaps we should start and, rather than argue about it amongst ourselves, we thought we could ask our readers.

We’ll leave this poll open and periodically check back on it. If you think there’s an option that’s been left out post it to the comments below and we’ll get back to you.
